Project Selfie 2014 and getting fit

This weekend has been one action-packed endeavor after another. Between parties, household chores and writing, I’m a bit knackered. I also managed to throw out my back while picking up a children’s toy, because I am now made of balsa wood, apparently. The truth is, for the past several months, I haven’t taken the best care of myself and when lifting a child’s Pack-N-Play brings you to your knees, it might be time to reevaluate.

I was up most of last night oscillating between crippling pain and a dull, thrumming ache, mentally listing all of the decisions that got me to this point. More than anything, I need to exercise and to eat better. Starting about 6 months ago, I decided that my own health was no longer a priority and that eating garbage and working all the time were the easier path. I was really hoping to run a 5K this year, but I am so under trained that it would be impossible for me to do without embarrassing myself. I might just have to jar loose some cash and run a treadmill this winter in hopes of getting fit again, or at the very least, less breakable.

Some of you may have noticed that PROJECT SELFIE is on again and I couldn’t be more excited. While I haven’t entirely gotten the “hang” of big internet projects, I feel like this is one wherein the message is simple and it speaks to a lot of folks. It’s okay to NOT be perfect. I’m hoping to do something a bit different with the video this year, which is why I began the submission process a month early. The video will be complete in early 2015 and everyone who participated will be sent a link to the video, but not before they receive a “Certificate of Humanity” and a picture of my cat, Buckaroo Banzai, having just woken up from a nap. If you are at all interested, I ask that you please send in you ‘first thing in the morning” selfie to robwalkerfilms@gmail.com, as well as tell your friends. The only way that this is going to be bigger than last year is if everyone pays it forward. So please, link the proposal video on Facebook and Twitter and ask folks to participate.

In other news, I’ve been trying to catch up on my writing responsibilities this weekend and you should see a new article from me at Nerd Reactor. Geek culture and Thanksgiving are two things that don’t traditionally overlap, but in an effort to find some common ground I decided to introduce people to the Solomon Kane short stories, as written by Robert E. Howard. A dour pilgrim that goes around killing pirates and monsters should be everyone’s Thanksgiving cup of tea.

I should also be sending Cinevore a few new VCoT scripts to see what they think. It’s been a slow process getting season three up and running, but I’m convinced that these new episodes will be among the best yet.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I paid off my student debt completely this week.

I did all of this with occasional breaks to clean, feed and pacify a one month old human. Like I said there’s been a lot going on.

Take care,

-Rob
